Complacent from any potential new attacks, the villagers have cut down the number of sentries watching the village's watchtower. There's only one sentry guarding the village this afternoon: Varya, an 18-year old blonde who is a 6-year old combat veteran of numerous wars between Edenia and its surrounding villages.
Varya was skillful in the art of archery and hand-to-hand combat, skills she learned from her mother, who was killed in the last major ambush against the village appx. two years ago. As a veteran of many campaigns, she's been assigned sentry duty numerous times and she's usually a very capable sentry, able to spot potential attackers from nearly a mile away.
Unfortunately, today Varya was overcame with fatigue after nearly 10 hours of guard duty and she was sleepy this one afternoon. It was a mistake that she will soon pay with her own life.
An ambush patrol from a neighboring village approaches Edenia, and wasn't detected by Varya's eyes until they came very close of approacing the village's main gate. Only then did Varya awake from her sleep and saw the patrol. She quickly yelled in Amazonian language "Sounds the alarm. Were under att....AAAAARRRRGHHH!!"
A member of the patrol saw Varya and quickly shot an arrow which hit her exposed chest, straight into her heart. Varya fell into the ground, and after grunting and gasping for air for appx. a minute, lost consciousness and dies. She has two dying wishes. The first one is that she will soon meet her mother in Valhalla. The second one is that someone will hear her alert scream and will rely that to her sisters, so that they'll be able to slaughter the ambushers and avenge her death.
Unfortunately and tragically for the rest of the Edenian resident warriors, this wasn't to be the case, as we'll see in the remaining chapters......
